COMMERCE CITY – A man was behind bars Monday night after leading police on a chase that ended with the suspect hiding inside a camper.
Commerce City Police say the chase began just after 10 p.m. when an officer stopped a Mitsubishi Galant at E. 69th Avenue and Brighton Boulevard for making an illegal turn. As the officer approached the car, police say its driver, 19-year-old Daniel Robert Sanchez, put the car in reverse in an apparent attempt to run over the officer.
Police and deputies from Adams County and troopers from state patrol began to chase Sanchez. The pursuit lasted several minutes and covered parts of Interstate 76, Highway 85 and coming to an end at E. 62nd Avenue and Parkway Drive where Sanchez got out of his Galant and fled on foot, according to authorities.
After searching the area, Sanchez was found hiding inside a camper in the 5300 block of E. 62nd Avenue.
Sanchez was transported to the Adams County Detention Facility on five outstanding warrants, criminal attempt first-degree assault, first-degree criminal trespass and vehicular eluding.
