Does anyone know if objects in scan lists can be put into alphabetical order? I want to do this mainly because some agencies I monitor have more than one frequency, and I would like to group them together in the scan list. Thanks.

It's fairly easy using Win500:

  • Select all objects that you wish to alphabetize
  • Sort the selected objects by Alpha Tag
  • Re-assign Object ID's of the selected objects.

Hint: if you have previously center or right justified the alphanumerics, you will have to left justify them before the alpha sort will work.

Thank you both for the info. I'm using Butel ARC 500 software. Will the same procedure work on that??

I have no idea. I do know that Don Starr's Win 500 is the most feature-rich software offering for the PSR-500 family of scanners and handles the task easily and intuitively. I suspect if you can't find a way to reassign object ID's in your not-made-in-America software you're SOL.

Good luck.

Apologies if this is OT but does sorting, either alpha or more likely by frequency make the scanner work any better or faster or provide any other particular benefit? Seems a frequency sort in the direction of the scan would help it be more efficient but I have no evidence of that. Thanks in advance.

Not really, the radio sorts by object. You can number the object sequentially, but that wont help speed up the radio. One can argue that the frequency order would make the difference, but I see nothing to support it.

You may want to read up on it in the Wiki section. http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/PSR-500
