• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

You need to change the Work Mode-A and Work Mode-B settings in the Optional Features menu from VFO to Ch. Name. [See image] This will set the radio to power up in the correct mode to display the channel alias names.

Pressing the # key sets the radio to the call channel. You can change this by going to the VFO/Call menu. You will notice that the two frequencies you had on your display before are shown as VFO A and B.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions.

- Rob

Does this alleviate the accidental press of the # key? I have 6 of these in the field that I locked the keypad on but people accidentally hit this and I have to walk them thru fixing it. Any way of locking this out as well?

Thanks!

Ok so I'm new here and new to radio altogether. I bought several of these and I can't get the programming software to work at all. It won't read from the radio or write to the radio. I have no com4 on the computer for USB. The cable is domestic and seems to connect fine meaning the software says its reading or writing then shows an error saying check the connection. The computer registers that there is a device connected to the port though.

Help!!! Please!!

Thanks so much!

You will need to install the proper driver for it to work., The driver can be acquired at the previously mentioned Yahoo group. Standard prolific drivers will not work. You need a earlier version driver, or an FTDI cable to get it done.

This is not the Chinese cable but one I bought from www.bestchoice preps.com domestically. His explanation was the cable worked for them as is. I did try that yahoo group but it's closed so I have no access.

Ok, I'm next.
I just bought 2 more px888k ' s from a guy who couldn't program them.
I thought it would be no big deal, I can program manually.
Wrong, they are locked out and I don't have the software, because it doesn't work, what's new.
So I'm looking for help.
I'll even mail them to someone to unlock them so I can manually program.

"KD8TOV you have to have the software to unlock them. Locking in the software cannot be undone with the keypad."

Thanks, correct.

I can get my computer to recognize the radio but they won't transfer from one to the other so I'm still stuck.

I have a request into CHIRP to take them and create a support for that model, which they don't have yet.
Hopefully it goes that route because I don't have the mental capacity or computer knowledge to make this happen.

The Chirp request has been in for years... no responses. There was even someone who wanted to send in a radio for them to use.

I probably should get a different cable.

Chirp doesn't look promising does it?

I'm still hopeful someone will pop up and say "yeah, I can do that".

I just got a new set of PX888K and downloaded v1.03 of the software. I loaded my channels into the first radio no problem. Now I can not access anything in the Menu. If I hit Menu it shows up but when I press any other key it returns to the channel I was on.
When I turn the radio on it shows 7.9v on the screen then goes to the main screen.
At the top is the letter w and the battery power
Next line has a M with the channel number below it, Then next to them is a Large letter A with the name of the channel MURS1
Next line has a small letter H and larger letters MURS1

I have a new cable coming and I hope to be able to remedy this situation.
I'll keep you posted.

I order my px888k's from 409 shop for the new ones and they come non programmed so I am able to manually program them to my desire, no lock out.

The bad set I have, the original buyer said he got them from Alibaba.

Hi guys,

I know I'm new here, but I've worked with PX888K's v1.01 software & v1.03 before on my own PX888K & a friend's as well.
Keep in mind, this is not CHIRP. This software is named PX888K (v1.01) & PX888K_UV (v1.03
Sadly, the website I got my software from doesn't have the page anymore, but the download page did warn me, that if you use v1.03 you will "lock" up the radio, as JeepZJ has described, and you will need v1.01 to unlock it.

To unlock it, you need v1.01 of the software, and follow these steps:

1. Connect your radio to your PC
2. Select your COMM Port
3. Read the radio
4. Click on Optional Features
5. Make sure Manual is checked, in the bottom right corner of the optional features window.
6. Click OK
7. Write to the radio & disconnect from PC
8. You should now be able to access the menu.

Note: I have confirmed myself, when Manual is not checked, the Menu is virtually useless, as it behaves as JeepZJ described above, and it must be v1.01, as v1.03 does not have the Manual setting in Optional Features

~ KN1IGHT

P.S. I've attached a screenshot of the Optional Features window & highlighted in red what should be checked.

Knight you are correct.
As I have been told by Puxing and 409 shop,
1.01 is not available any longer.
Only if you can get it from someone who has it can you make it work.
Sad but true

KD8TOV,

I do have the installer program for v1.01, but am not sure if I can share it or not, as the website I got it from was not the manufacturer's website.
