I am going to purchase the 396t this weekend. My question is about the none celluar freq. What will I be missing? Is there a better unit then this?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

I think you meant 'non cellular frequencies' - be more specific about this and folks can answer. That topic is entirely too broad to be answered 73s Mike

If you are referring to the reference in the specs to the cellular frequencies being blocked out then don't let this influence your decision. According to federal law ALL scanners must have the cellular phone frequencies blocked so that the user cannot monitor them. This law was passed during the days of analog phones but remains today. Even if they were not blocked there is no scanner that will properly decode the TDMA, GSM, or CDMA protocols used by today's digital cellular phones. The digital police and fire systems that scanners are able to monitor use a totally different standard than cellular phones. You wont miss out on anything by having these frequencies blocked. Public safety systems use other parts of the 800 band that are not blocked in any scanner made to receive that band. So the short answer is no, you wont miss out on anything. These same frequencies are blocked in all scanner regardless of brand or model.
