I have a question for Joplin scannists. When a med flite chopper is returning to St. Johns' hospital with a patient, do they discuss patient info with the hospital over the air?

If so, what freq.? I've got what I can off the database~ a few freqs in the 460. range, but when they leave a scene here locally and after they've lifted off, I don't hear them talk with the hospital. I have heard them in the past, on occasion, but not anymore.

Do they do it by cell phone, With them being airborne, I figure I would at least hear some of their transmissions even if they were pretty far off. It's only about 45 miles to Joplin from here, so I should hear something.

Well, I do have 155.340 on my scan list and I may be hearing them on there when theya re talking to their contact in the landing zone, but I am not hearing them when they get back to Joplin.

So, what are the 460. freqs' for that are listed in the frequency lists here on radio reference?

What is HEAR?

Don't know about your area, but I've heard med flights in the KC area on the regular med channels. I think they stay to one of two of the 10 or so, but it's been a while so don't remember for sure which ones. Think I would add the standard Med 1-9 (or whatever they are, again, guess it's been too long <g>) and listen to them. See what that turns up for you.

Most of the time when aircraft come in for a scene flight, they will coordinate with ground units (that set up LZ) on various freqs (FD ops freqs, EMS freqs, etc). After they take off from a scene and they have been in the air for a few mins or when they are in range of the hospital, they will start giving the receiving hospital a patient report on the HEAR. That's what it's main purpose is.

As far as the UHF freqs that are listed for Medflight and such, I'm not sure what they are for. Never have monitored them. If I had to speculate, I'd say they would use them for inter-helicopter communication or something similar.

Hope this helps. Keep an eye (or ear) on the HEAR and you'll listen to some interesting things.
