Question on Scanners

I have a question, our department has a new radio system....using a Harris P7300 radio....they say there are no scanners available for this type of radio? Does anyone know if that is true or is there a scanner out there that can pick it up? Thanks!

If they configure it as ProVoice or encrypted then no you won't.

Don't count on it. Encryption can't be decoded without permission per US federal law and ProVoice would require a license that won't be granted since they market ProVoice as not being scannable.

Sure, there are some software packages that folks are working on to decode the various modes that no scanner can decode. Since the OP was asking specifically "Does anyone know if that is true or is there a scanner out there that can pick it up?" I kept my answer to this question. The topic of this is even specific to scanners as well so it's probably not relevant to include other options.

Now if they asked "Is there a scanner or any other way to listen to this system?" bringing up other options may be valid answers. Also if your post included some explaination other than two links to non-scanner related solutions that said something like "While no scanner can do it directly, these links may help show you some other options." may have provided some help if they wanted to go further.

yes, I guess that is part of my original question......is there any way to listen "real time" to what is going on? My family liked to listen to our dept on their scanner as a way to staying connected to what I was doing on the job.....now there seems to be no way they can listen??
