• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I just bought some VX2200s. They are fantastic in every way except for one: they sound very quiet to other radios. It is doing it on all channels irregardless of things like CTCSS security codes or which frequency I'm on.

In case I'm not being clear what I mean is that we can hear perfectly with the 2200sbut other guys can't hear us very well. They say it sounds like we are whispering when in fact we are almost yelling. I'm sure its something that I programmed incorrectly but I'm not sure what. Any tips where to start looking? Currently I have the power setting at high and the squelch at 4. The only thing that looks odd to me on the programming software is that when I created my channels it seemed to somewhat randomly assign checkmarks to RX,TX and OPT under clockshift. I have no idea what clockshift is. It doesn't seem to matter what channel it is we are always quiet sending and plenty of volume receiving. For the most part my channels are very basic- we send and receive on the same frequency and all of my antennas are set to the middle channel of the group like they always have been.

First thing I would check is your mike or mikes. One or more may have a bad microphone in it. Not
uncommon. In the programming section, "miscellaneous", I believe there is a setting for mike gain.
Check that it is set to "standard" or something similar. You can also increase the mike gain in that
programming section to see if that helps. As i recall the "clock shift" means the radio adjusts the
frequency just a bit up or down to avoid any internally generated microprocessor noise that might
cause interference. I believe it is explained in the Help section.

I found "gain"- put it up to the max (+10) and that totally fixed it. Thanks
