The ACLU has a quiz that should be taken by anyone who's ever sent an email or used a cell phone.

Why?

* With each passing day, we're leaving a trail of more and more personal data. Take cell phones, for example—90% of Americans carry one, each of which can be used as a tracking device.
* At the same time, the government's appetite for our electronic information is out-of-control. The National Security Agency is intercepting 1.7 billion emails, phone calls and other communications per day.

The combination of rapidly-advancing technology and ever-expanding government surveillance could be putting your private information at risk.

My favorite part of the quiz was the end...

They spend the whole time warning you that your private information is being tracked, then they ask for your name, E-Mail address, and zip code.

Bravo - Sierra. The U.S Govt can get more about me in my trash can and daily planner, than it can off of my cell phone and computer.

I remember when the big scare was shread all the documents in your house before you throw them away, and rip up the carbon copys of money orders...cause spooks was getting them out of the trash can in the post office and copying the money orders, using the infor for themselves. Geeze - Lo - weeeeesy.

If the Govt wishes to listen in on my cell calls about camping, work schedule , cookouts , having a relative mow my yard, or a call about picking someone up at the airport...They can go right ahead.

Question though...Does the United States National Security Agency have a charter to monitor call within the United States..and it's terroritys ; or is that the sole responsibility of the Federal Bureau of Investigation...whom I belive is the sole agency charged with domestic intelligence gathering, and counter-intelligence work. YES, there is another agency who can help...but only under speical circumstances and permission.

You seem to forget about ESCHELON and CARNIVORE. They don't have to run in the US, most listening posts are not on US soils, no need for warrants or laws for that matter. The French have had a lawsuit against the US for years in the World Court over it.
I get a kick out of any insider in a government agency writing in public about his job. Nothing better than disinformation.
