Just for the record…. MDOT Police is now known as CTED (Commerical Transportation Enforcement Division) and they are under the umbrella of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety now. The CTED units now operate on each districts MHP primary dispatch talkgroup, their numbers are normally the districts number…. Example 601 - CTED unit Troop H…
As far as emergency management roll calls go, the only ones of those you will hear is the monthly MSWIN radio test on State Special Events Common that MEMA does. The used to do these the first Tuesday of every month but as of next month they will be moved to the first Wednesday of each month. The MEMA field units go in service daily on the MEMA Primary talkgroup listed in the database and you can also hear the emergency response coordinators for the Mississippi Departement of Health go in/out of service on their MSDH Common talkgroup daily. MEMA oversees the communications for the MSDH units as well. Overall the emergency management agencies within MS really don’t use the radio much. Everything is handled via online software and telephone for the majority of operations for the state agencies. The talkgroups MEMA does have for field response operations are 100% strapped encrypted using ADP.
The MS Department of Corrections is completely o 100% of the time, there is no chance to listen to them.
Occasionally if you monitor all the special events talkgroups you will hear some exercises, a search and rescue, large incident, federal agencies who don’t have dedicated talkgroups, and even occasionally some undercover sting operations will occur on the regional special events TGs.
Hospitals and EMS have increased their usage of MSWIN significantly over the last few years. I know of at least two more EMS agencies moving to MSWIN, 1 being a large air medical service. The hospitals also do regional monthly roll calls on MSWIN on their regional hospital event talkgroups. You can hear certain air medical and hospital reports across a few talkgroups as well, including UMMC MedCom. I will say that due to the sensitive information that *MAY* be given across the radio, I’ve noticed a trend lately of more encryption being used by these agencies / hospitals. MSWIN is rather lenient on types of encryption that can be used so that helps agencies use cheap encryption protocols to keep listeners out.
