Hi,

I noticed on Radio Shack's site the PRO-96 digital scanner is on sale for $349.99 ($150 off) through 11/21.

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2036238&cp=2032052.2032072&parentPage=family

I've been out of the scanning scene for several years. My most recent scanner is a PRO-97, and I've used the Win97 software.

$349.99 for a PRO-96 sounds like a great deal on a digital scanner! Being that I have not kept current, is there any reason not to by it? (ie ... rebanding, is the scanner itself about to becoming old technology, or it's inability to scan E. F. Johnson LTR (Logic Trunked Radio) systems (at least as of 2003), or the lack of 700mhz coverage (unlocked by the Win97 software?).

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

3 issues that I have...

There are three main reasons why I do not like the Pro-96, although the good far outweigh the bad.

1. No LTR tracking.

2. No 700MHz tracking

3. Size; it's a big one.

Other than that I love the Pro-96. I would also say if you have time, check these forums. I was able to pick one up in mint condition for $275. If you can get it for $300 or less I would get it for sure. If you think you can do $350, it's up to you, but it does not seal the deal for me. Especially when you can put that $350 toward the new PRS-500.

Like Asus said I too love mine its been a very good scanner but I would have to put the money towards the GRE PSR 500 or 600. The price is tempting and is about what I had in mine a couple of years ago. I got 100bucks off on a coupon and put it on a new RS card with no Intrest for a year. Matter a fact it was about this time of year, they had the promotion till the first of the year.......Hoser

I would not buy the PRO-96. I'd spend the extra money to get something that covers all of the current and upcoming bands. That's why I bought a Uniden BCD39T for $408 dollars from Uniden Direct.

Depends on what you are planning to monitor.. If there is no LTR, 700, 380 trunking then I would actually go for it... It is a great scanner
