radio shack pro 97 repairs??:)

ok, heres the deal with Radio shack I took my pro 97 scanner in to be repaired , its 1 year old ( had the extended 1 year warranty which was $40-$50) I took it back back in the summer to have antenna connection fixed. Took it back again today to have same thing done again before the 1 yr warranty ran out.. the guy called the service people etc & then told me I would be getting a check for the price I paid for it $149.99 in 1 -2 business days... Is this unusual??... or have they discontinued this 1 for good??.. kinda odd I think, but will turn around & get a brand new Pro 97 tho lol

RS no longer does their service warrenties in house.

In a nutshell, RS sells your service plans to a third party, and most in-expensive items are replaced (they send you a giftcard in the mail, and you ship them back the product).
Expensive items have to be shipped to a repair shop.

I would have thought the PRO 97 would be a repair item, but I guess it is a replacement item.

But, the PRO-97 is no longer on sale, it's current price is $199.99

If they can't repair it, or it will be more to repair then it's worth then they just replace it. Rather than make you get the same model, they give you a check so you get a choice of what you can get.

Not unusual at all, in fact if you read the repair plan brochure it tells you this.

well i believe it showed still on sale but i think guy will let me have 3 what I paid a year ago. I have bought all my scanners from then in past 10-15 years

well i believe it showed still on sell but i think guy will let me have fori originally paid tho

Waited 1 week to get the return shipping label, had to take it to radio for them to ship it Grrr been 5 days now here is what UPS site has too say

When you see one like that, only showing "Billing Information Recieved", it usually means one of two things:
The shipper never actually gave it to a UPS driver to start it's trip. It's still in their back room or somewhere other than in UPS' possession.
or
It was picked up, but the driver was lazy & forgot to scan it in as 'picked up'. This late after shipment, it should have surfaced somewhere.

Contact the shipping location tomorrow, as well, as UPS (1-800-PICK-UPS). Try to get them to initiate a trace to see which of the two it is. It should have been delivered by now. If you are paying for the shipping, you are the shipper. If the store (or Radio Shack) is, they are the shipper & should be handling this, and/or filing a lost freight claim if that's what it comes down to. I've dealt with a lot of lost and misdirected packages. UPS usually will refer you back to the "shipper", unless you are the one paying for the freight cost yourself, on your own UPS acct.

thanks, will call repair place & then Radio Shack Grrrr I want my Pro 97 NOW!! lol:).. radio shack is 1 that was supposed 2 ship it... it was prepaid label etc

Just an FYI, call the 1-800 number that you origanlly called to get the prepaid shipping label, as the sales assocaites in the store will have no clue what you are talking about.

RadioShack uses fedex for all shipments, but assurant (the people who handle all extended warrenty claims) use ups.

From your second update, UPS probably did not even pick it up until the 8'th (this past Monday). That's why the departure from Montgomery is 3am on the 9th.

I'd harrass Radio Shack's 800#, as KLH suggested. Looks like the store did not give it to UPS promptly. Probably, they just stuck it in the back room & waited until somebody remembered to give it to a delivery driver, instead of calling & requesting a pickup (they might not get packages every day, but UPS will drop by & pick up if called). As KLH noted, the 'Shack' apparently uses Fedex as primary. So does my company, but some of our suppliers (for warranty parts) use UPS or DHL.
