Where You At?

Maybe we'll see a review on MTV's Pimp-My-Scanner! :p
LOL, that is as bad as Boost Mobile's "Where you at" motto. Always thought it was unwise of Nextel to use bad English like that, but I guess that is who their market target is for Boost (prepaid Nextel).

Ok, I stopped by the Shack today and looked at the PRO-84. It has the same FCC ID number as the 83, AMWUB327. So it's the same as the 83 painted flame red with an adjustable volume headset. I had some batteries installed and checked the operation and display, it was identical to the PRO-83, so the Shack web page picture was changed to look like the PRO-99.

That is very misleading then on the website. That is false advertisement anyway you look at it. By looking at the pic, it looks like you are getting getting CTCSS and text. Is that correct or is it just a non-text non ctcss like the 83? This will probably trick lots of people and RS will pick up an extra $100 by simply repainting and adding heaphones.

Enjoyed Hello Kitty and Barby referneces. I started to smile, then chuckle and finally a good laugh.

Afterwards...I went to ebay and bought a Pro-84 for $59 USD with headphone.

Now, I must find a "hello kity" sticky to put in on the backside of the battery holder (not).

And, finally, to raise the "level of satire" and created a WIKI for Pro-84 and added refences to "hello kitty" and "Barbie" in it.

You have to have a sense of humor. Else...

You might trash the Pro-84 all you want, but I still say it's a very handy and compact radio for all the things it can do.

Riverguardian, this is a pretty old thread. I read it before I went out and bought my PRO-84. It ended up being an incredible bargain. It's been my travel scanner and really got me back in the hobby. It does everything it's supposed to do quite well and the size is perfect for taking on the road. I keep it in my laptop bag and listen to it in airports while waiting for connecting flights. The light up keypad and Close Call alone are worth the money. The scan time is faster than my PRO-93 and side by side, my PRO-84 finds more signals with both scanners using the Radio Shack 800 MHz antenna.

I just bought one for the race track (SCCA). I have a Tekk XT-900 2-way for conversing with the car and crew, and for listening to the course officials, I needed a scanner that was simple, small and light. The Pro-84 on sale at $49.95 (my son got the "headset", along with an older Bearcat BC60XLT that I previously used) fit that bill. I needn't care about alpha tags, nor the looks. I still like the separate squelch and audio knobs (unlike my Pro-97) although the push button on/off concerns me a little. I brush up against things when working around the car, and an accidental turn off would be annoying, but then I suspect that it also might be rare.

My only concern with the Pro-84 would be reception. SCCA unlike NASCAR, is run on a road course, and you can't always see the car (for obstacles such as hills, trees, buildings, etc). I "want" to use the stubby antenna vice the rubber ducky, so we'll see how it all comes together next month at our first race (cabin fever is why I'm here right now :)))))

Until then, thus far with other local frequencies in my area, a great radio.

I bought a PRO-84 last week new at RS for $49.00. What a deal! It has a lot going for it (size, signal stalker, scan speed, searches, etc.). I use it as a back up or "beater scanner" when I go outside or need to grab an easy to use covert scanner. It's not a PRO-96, but for $49.00 it may as well be flying out the window!!
