• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have to ask an urgent question.. saw a youtube vid mentioning a squelch issue. How is the squelch sensitivity on this radio? I sent back an rt-900 because of useless squelch sens, it was too tight evrn on 1 and I was misding most transmisdions. (keyboard sux, giving up on typos) If it is the same with the 880, I need to know so I can cancel the order forthwith. TIA

Squelch works fine on both my 860 and 880. I've got squelch assigned to a key, and it makes it much easier to adjust. I've been running mine from from level 1 during the afternoon for airband reception, but have to crank it up to 5 or 6 in the mornings due to tropospheric enhancement.

So weak/noisy signals get through fine?

Yes, very well. I'm listening to traffic on 123.450 around the region, as well as 131.175 and 246.900. FM reception is equally good.

Does it receive the full Airband (108-136 MHz)

Does anyone know where I can download a user manual for it?

Friends, I was one of the first in Russia to receive 880, and I can say that the sensitivity of this radio is high, but with the menu, of course, it takes a very long time to figure out and I am waiting for a miracle cable for programs from China

Yes. Full coverage of Civil and Military airbands, along with full HF aeronautical.

My 880 and 860 work great for airband monitoring, and the audio quality on AM is better than any other radio I have.

Much to my surprise mine arrived today. Very solid feeling radio (that said, the cement block in my backyard has a solid feel to it as well). Easy to operate without looking at the manual, because why would I want to do a thing like that? Mine came with two cables, one of which appears to be a programming cable (whether wired properly remains to be seen).

Preliminary receive seems to find it to be reasonably sensitive. I'm only using its stock antenna which will have to be replaced. I'll need to find an appropriately fitting SMA female to BNC female adapter so I can use real antennas. I'll investigate firmware and programming later. I have no intention for using this as a transmitter, just a kick-around "disposable" receiver that if it gets dropped in the drink (or the can) I won't shed too many tears...if any.

The password protection for the firmware is absurd. I found one for the CPS but it, and any of the above, don't work for the firmware. Might anyone have one kicking around?

Edit: I just found one that works, if it's of help: 25880417

Thanks.
