Does anybody know if trains still run thru Calais, ME? I was there years ago eating in a trackside restaurant when a freight train stopped across the street and the crew came in, sat down at a table and ordered lunch. Just wondering if the train tracks are still there and if the still used.

Thanks in advance.

There is a paper mill in Woodland, just north of Calais, which is served by rail. The rail branch between Brewer and Calais shut down over 20 years ago, but the rails are still in place the last I heard. I believe that the paper mill is served by the Maine Central (or Pan Am Railways, or Springfield Terminal, or whatever they are calling it this week.) I believe that the tracks connect to the New Brunswick Southern somewhere near Saint Steven New Brunswick. I'm not sure how close the railroad actually operates to Calais.

Thank you for the information. It has obviously been more than 20 years since I was in Calais. When I get the opportunity, would like to go to Bangor, then on Rt.9 to Calais and on to Halifax, NS thru NB. When I do, will check railroad freqs to see if anyone is talking. I am sure a lot of things have changed.
