I searched the Internet today hoping to find a Raspberry Pi project that could interface my SDS100 to the screen in my car, but with no luck. I found a couple of interesting photos (shown here) but when linking to the site hit a 404 page << HERE >>.

There are programs, like Scanner Radio Pro for cellphone phones that work with cars, but having a GUI like ProScan in the car would be so nice. I figure a RPi takes so little juice so could always be active, and when getting into the car one could plug in their SDS100 for control and use Bluetooth for the audio. It seems like that would add a little more of a safety factor having the display in a more accessible location.

Is there a project like this that I've missed somewhere?

Most car entertainment systems has a cable for external video input and in the picture it's connected to a RPi's display output. Connect that video input to a laptop that runs Proscan. It's probably a safety issue that projects are not developed as you should not take your eyes off the road to try and read a detailed display. It's distracting enough listening to scanner audio with all the information it holds. But it would be useful when stuck in a traffic jam to and from work.

What I would like to see in scanners are a "sticky" display mode, that it keeps the last conversation on screen while scanning for next conversation. It's useless to see a "scanning" message and if you didn't catch the display while they where talking you could see that info later if the info where hold on the display until next conversation starts. Display updates from "squelch".

Man, that is probably the BEST suggestion I've read for the scanner yet! I cannot tell you how many times I've not been fast enough on the bloody hold button.

I set a relatively long hold time (5 seconds) on each channel/talkgroup, and the display holds after each transmission. I may miss what they said, but I see who said it.

The few vehicles that I did this with years ago all disabled the video input when the vehicle transmission was not in park. We easily defeated that on some units, and then it ran into other problems as that caused one particular vehicle manufacturer's head units to display an error message & set a diag code. Ended up using an aftermarket screen for the onboard/aftermarket computer systems.

with light forum searching, the << @Omega-TI >> could have found this thread, which is very similar in nature.
