Is the re-banding fix for the GRE version of the Pro-164 [or visa-versa] the one I need for my 164, or is there a 164 specific firm wear up-date out there that I've yet to find? I get a no go when I click on the go button for the GRE up date.

You would need the Radio Shack version. The GRE version won't work (and the R/S version would not work in a GRE scanner).

Go to the product's page online:
PRO-164 1000-Channel Handheld Scanner - RadioShack.com

Scroll down till you see the "Product Support" tab (next to the Specifications).

The firmware updates are listed under Product support. Looks like the most current is version 1.08.

You do need software to enter the custom tables for rebanded systems, even after the firmware has been updated. Also see this.

That depends on what specific "fix" you are looking for.

Generally speaking you'll be able to receive rebanded systems once you've programmed them correctly into this scanner. Some systems may require you to make a setting in the scanner that can only be accessed with programming software (not available via manual programming). But the details depend on the specific system you are trying to program/receive.

Well, now that I've up-dated my 164, I find that I can't figure out how to manualy step through the trunk talk groups I programed in using the butel soft wear demo that came with the programing cable.
Any hints as to what I missed?

I do not have a PRO-164, but on page 46 of the manual under "Deleting Talk Groups" it tells you how to access them. After the first 2 steps, I think you can then step through them using the arrows.

Thanks, but what I was thinking was to be able to stop scanning and just step through my programed talk groups the same way I can step through my conventional frequencies. Right now all I can do is wait for a TG to become active and hit the pause button to hold it. When I want to manualy go to another TG with the up-down arrows, it only shows me the control freqs I programed for the system.

I just got a 164, and I am trying to figure out the same. If you find a solution, please share! =D. I hate having to wait for my specific talk group to come up, and then place a hold on it. It annoy's me alot.
