I appreciate all of the help I've received through the forums over the last 9 months and finally have an issue I don't think has been covered before.

I don't pick up any transmissions when I scan the CB band. I've used both the stock and 800 MHz antennas but no luck with either. I've held on channel 19 on the interstate and also just let it scan but nothing. I don't have much occasion to monitor CB but since I only have a month left on my warranty I want to make sure the scanner is in working order before I lose the chance to get it repaired.

Thanks for any help.

An antenna tuned for the CB band will work MUCH better than either the stock duck or 800.

i can attest that cb does work on the pro-97.if you are using a rubber antenna you may not pickup much.i currently have it in my house hooked up to a inside mounted radio shack discone.i've had to lock out 3 cb frequencies because thery are driving me nut's.now i have some guy with a southern accent calling himself "the alabama slammer" and saying he's in west virginia.i have a feeling i'm bouncing some skip.

Forget using the 800 MHz antenna for VHF unless receiving a fairly strong signal. It works ok for UHF (300+ MHz). The stock antenna will work ok for CB, but keep in mind you'll probably need "line of sight" to receive a legal transmission. If you connect an outside antenna that is designed for 27 MHz, it works pretty good but not as good as a CB radio.

I was barely able to hear with the stock antenna in an interstate with traffic almost stopped due to a traffic accident.

I guess that the telescopic whip is way better for CB.

Hahah I have heard this guy as far north as my neck of the woods here in Alberta, hes a smooth talking texan.

9/10 I don't understand a word the guys saying.

I also have an odd problem
I have a GE handheld cb and when I used it to test my pro97 I tried on CH19 and the scanner said I was TXing on CH20? weird hey? any ideas.

I never receive anything by scanning the CB band on my Pro-97 with the ducky... only get some hits on it while on a highway.

I was playing with the CB scanning on my PRO-97 yesterday and listening to my CB at the same time for comparison. I did have some activity on the scanner but my CB would pick up WAY before I would hear the same conversation on the scanner. All I have on my CB is a single little 24" fiberglass antenna so its not a monster rig by any means. I only really have it for short range communications while 4wheelingI tried both the stock duckie antenna as well as my external 33" hustler antenna and the duckie seemed to work better for CB band. I'm convinced its all in the antenna. I would almost be curious enough to get an adapter to hook my CB antenna to the scanner but I guess whats the point really.

I'm really impressed with all of the helpful responses. I guess my scanner isn't malfunctioning after all. I'd like to listen to CB while traveling but unless the antenna is compact I don't think I'd bother. Having a giant antenna would be more hassle than breaking out the old mobile CB.

Thanks again.

I agree. You would probably be ahead of the game just mounting a cheap ol CB in there.

CB is the HF band not VHF band. VHF starts at 30 MHz.

Honestly, scanners just arnt made for such low freqs. I HAVE hooked my pro-95 to my 11meter(CB) dipole and it makes a huge difference. I cant hear anything on the scanner with a RS telescoping scanner antenna. I turn on my 11 meter radio and the airwaves are PACKED. The antenna needs to be at least 1/4 wave length @ 27MHz, about 9 feet long, electrically speaking of course. Get yourself an old Cobra 25 or 29 and youll have all the CB rx youll need until you get serious in 11 meter radio.

Thanks for the suggestion about the adapter. Because of all the posts I now have some options at least.
