Recording a Scanner Problem

I am using Sony Sound Forge 10 to record my scanner. I am recording at 24bit stero, 44,100 hz and when I preview the audio it sounds really bad.
I've tried playing around with some of the settings but no luck.
It could be the cord, because I found it lying around somewhere.

I have come to the conclusion that it is the cord, what cord is required to record your scanners audio?
