I notice that within Radio Reference there are a number of "remote sites," generally in the UHF spectrum, both for the Fire Service and Law Enforcement. I was wondering if those sites are necessary to program, or if somehow they're generally tied somehow into the main dispatch channel, which is on VHF anyway, and whether by programming them into the scanner it's a redundancy that isn't necessary. I seem to get quite a bit of static, no voice, on some of these remote sites, and they're kind of a pain to have to listen to when they're active and the scanner scans over those frequencies.

If your picking up the repeater transmission just fine, there is no good reason to program.

Depending on how the system works, some remotes may use a different tone for each agency etc. If you only want to listen to a specific agency, this could help.
