As mentioned in forums previously, my scanner won't recieve any AM signals anymore, although FM is fine. (I have an 8200 MK2) and have determined the unit is in need of repair. I only moved to the U.S. a couple of years ago so my scanner is a U.K. version. AOR USA said they would not repair it as it is capable of recieveing US cell phone frequencies. Can anyone think of an alternative to sending my MK2 back to the UK as AOR have suggested. Are AOR the only company capable of this kind of repair???

I've had excellent service with AOR Japan. Not all that costly when you consider the distance involved, they did some upgrades and tweaks. I had the early 20 channel 25-550 receiver. Wish I had kept it, good radio.

Thanks for the info :) I would feel alot better sending my beloved 8200 overseas knowing somebody has had a good experience with AOR previously.

In that case send it back to AOR in the UK. In 30 years of dealing with Lowe and then also AOR when they set up their own UK facility I've had nothing but excellent service.

Morfis,
Are you in the UK? I can't see anything on AOR Japan web site about repair, so looked at the UK site. From here in the U.S. the amount of customs info needed according to the UK site looks kind of daunting. Will read there site again hopefully it wont be as bad as it sounds. I'm awfully tempted to use this as an exscuse to get a knew radio and make due with the my 8200 as is.

Yes, I'm in the UK.

E-mail AOR in the Uk and ask them for advice...they are helpful and will be sure to tell you all you need to know.

If you do send it to the UK be sure that it is marked as "returned from repair" when it's coming back to you (I'm sure they'd do that anyway) .

AOR USA has a very well qualified technician.
They are able to fix just about any AOR radio.

Maybe so...but quoted from the original post:

"AOR USA said they would not repair it as it is capable of recieveing US cell phone frequencies. "
