LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--By 2017, it is expected that the world market for land mobile radio systems will achieve a value of $16.25 billion, according to a new report on companiesandmarkets.com. The global recession had limited impact on the industry, according to the LMR systems research report, and as economies recover it is expected that the digital radio trend will continue to increase.

Private sector organizations need secure comms.....for what?

Public Safety and the U.S Govt , as well as their contractors are the only ones , that i can think of , that need secure comms. Upgrading unnecessarily to secure comms does nothing but take maney away from a business ; and put it into the hands of multi-million companys.

Who , in the private sector , needs secure comms?

What do they need...More money?

An in-depth "analysis , or in-depth" study of possible financial income?

I'm all for private companies having secure comms.

What if you need a taxi or wrecker or locksmith or something and you have to use a credit card to pay for it? Would you like your name and credit card number read over a non-secure radio channel?

What if a service tech shows up at your house and nobody is there. He calls his dispatcher and says "I'm at Mr. X's house at 123 Sesame St. and nobody answers the door." Then the dispatcher announces to the whole town "Mr. Medic just called to cancel and he won't be back in town until Tuesday" or, "Mr. X said there won't be anybody there and to let yourself in. The gate code is 1234, there is a key on top of the porch light and the alarm code is 123456."

I don't have a problem with companys haveing secure comms. But I see no reason for " MOST" of them. It's just LMR companys geting rich , selling a product that is not needed.

They swipe the card there and you sign the bill ( ??? onion skin copy ) . There is no reason to annonce the credit card number over the radio.

I don't belive this t be a rational scenerio. Plus, " I " would not let any service personnel in my house unless I was there. People I know excluded.

The local taxi company I use calls in credit cards via personal cellphones so credit card info. won't be aired on their clear channel. I applaud them for doing this.

Just thought I'd toss that in there since it was brought up.
