The QST review was pretty neutral at best and is very dated. The B1 and B1+ are greatly improved over the ARRL tested version. The ability to scan/monitor 4 talkgroups with DMRoIP is one of the greatest features. 2022 will see the addition of new features. I would look at the eHam and QRZ recent reviews for up to date opinions.
does this scan feature apply to both version of the b1?

If that's the case, contact Bob at RFinder. He will do a FB video call (or a video call within the RFInder app) with you and work through the issue for you. His customer service is second to none.

The updates, especially to the display on the older model are good, but the bug that shuts down the radio randomly and returns to the Android screen makes it useless for any serious use and has been there since I purchased the K1

I saw a recent video where Bob said "they are working on it" and it sounded like it wasn't too far off from being released.
They are always “working on it” with that radio. It’s three steps forward, & two steps back with every upgrade. I tried to talk my friend out of buying one, but he makes good $, so he bought it. He’s constantly in touch with one of the guys who develops their software, but the radio still has problems. So less than a month old, it’s for sale. A great idea, that’s not ready for prime time yet. He now wishes he’d have listened to me.

I bought a used one from flea-bay a couple of weeks ago. I have no regrets. Everything is working as it should. It appears the Ver 13 of the software really turned the corner on the functionality. I held off for a long time, reading about the plethora of issues and problems. Since 13 came out, it appears to be pretty stable. I'm staying out of the Beta program, as that is where issues reside, which is not at all surprising. If the next few weeks prove me to be wrong, I picked up right, so I would get my money back and then some. I guess that's part of the "fun?" of ham radio, is trying out new things.

Running 13.10 on the K1, and every time I start the radio function it prompts me to install 13.11. When I touch UPGRADE NOW it crashes back to the Android screen. I sent a request for assistance through their web page a few days ago, but have not received a reply.

Boy was my friend lucky. He was able to trade it to a friend for an APX8000. Now he’s happy.
