My two Diamond RH&&CA antennas arrived today from www.hamcity.com. So I wanted to test them out and compare them to my stock antennas. Well I am very happy with the RH77CA's, they definately perform better than the stock rubber duckies. Now I had the rh77ca on my pro-97 and was hearing KAVP atis pretty good from my location in Scranton, PA, I would not be able to hear that with my rubber duckie. Ok then I connected my gre super amp to the scanner and then attached my rh77ca to that and then again tuned into KAVP atis. Well when I turned on the amp, I wouldnt be able to hear the atis, then when I turned the amp off/bypass, I would be able to hear it clear again. I even adjusted gain, to no avail. Now then I took the amp totally of the scanner and attached the antenna and then again, I can hear the atis pretty good. Now I don't know if this amp and rh77ca is a good combination, obviously not.

I'm hoping someone could give me some ideas why this isn't work correctly and was is causing it. Also if anyone else has any suggestions on how to pull in more signals or boost signals, if anything. I was also thinking about getting that Maldol antenna designed for the civil and milair air bands.

Sounds like the Diamonds are providing a lot of signal for the amp and the resulting output overloads your receiver.

just leave the super amp off. good antennas and amps bring in garbage with the signal you want. You are getting too much garbage. That's the trouble with amps.

Not sure I see the point in running an amp if your goint to attenuate.

I'm just looking for suggestions, to see if that would do anything, obviously not. I just I'm just going to have to leave the amp off.

Yea, it would do something, it would probably provide the same result as not using the amp at all depending on how much gain the amp provides.

It's the GRE Super Amp. It provides 0-10dB gain.

Yeah, I'll add my opinion, even though the question has been answered. You're just experiencing reciever overload. Too much signal is just as bad as not enough. Your RH77 is suckin in so much, and producing several dB gain already. Putting your GRE SuperAmp in line is overloading everything.

Sort of like putting a Supercharger on a Turbocharged engine. Too much boost will blow the head gasket!

Hi Kmacka and all,

Here we go again.

"Now I don't know if this amp and rh77ca is a good combination..."

Oh yes you do.

"...obviously not."

Correctomundo. So, why did you ask?

Wow relax. Maybe I should have changed the wording. I was looking for maybe an explanation or any suggestions, which I got. I didn't think people would examine my words that closely, obviously you did!

You know, sometimes I feel like I'm only making RR drag down, since I'm not as smart as some of the others here..
