Tilcon has by far the best coverage of any of the crossbands... it is located on a mountain and is now using a quantar repeater on the uhf side(half duplex no more waiting for the low band to drop COR) with a repeater controller to add delay on low band and UHF so the messages are not clipped.

intersesting note the tilcon frequency (470.500) is now licensed to the Thiells-roseville Fire District and not the county of rockland anymore.

Rockland county lost the license and they picked it up.

There is also a crossband link on helen hayes hospital usd by the west haverstraw FD on 470.675.

County lost their license huh...figures. Guess that is what happens when the County Legislature takes too long to fund projects. Speaking of which...any word on the progress of the trunked system for Rockland ? Last I heard they were still waiting for approval of funds, hence my above post.

I forgot about the West Haverstraw link up on Helen Hayes. I used to listen to it in the Stony Point area.

I grew up in Pomona and can't believe that the county is still using low band. I started my monitoring as a kid using a tunable receiver to pick up fire and police. From our house, I could see the Ramapo Mountains and hear the brush fire calls.
Haven't been back in over 15 years since my parents retired and moved to ATL.

Last I heard, the place I grew up in called Pomona is now called Wesley Chapel...what's up with that?

The reason the county lost the original license was because they never should have been given them from the get go. they lost 3 frequencies. they are 12.5 kHz channels and were to close to a few user who were using 25kHz channels and would have caused harmful interfierance.

The funding for the new system has been approved and they have been grant a slow growth plan from the FCC. county purchasing is awaiting the final selection of the vendor. as soo as the consultant submits's its report a vendor will be chosen which should be at the end of the month.
