I am really uneducated in RF communications so please don't flame me.

I have been in EMS for 15 years and just joined the local volunteer fire department. I wanted a scanner to listen to fireground operations while I am responding. I am in Clark County Indiana, to my knowledge we are using Motorola Type 2 Smartzone Omnilink on a digital network. The pro-433 specs states that it is compliant with the type 2 omnilink but analog only. I am assuming, and please tell me if I am right or wrong here, that the pro433 wont hear the digital transmissions.

I can get one brand new in the box for about 130 bucks but I wanted to know before I buy it if it will hear what I am trying to hear. Can someone help me out with this please?

Unfortunately, or fortunately since you haven't bought it yet, it is analog only voices. It will not decode digital voice channels.

Good news, bad news. Unless they are still using the VHF fire ground frequencies, your county has gone to the Indiana SAFE-T digital system. If your local volunteer FD is still using VHF, you are ok. The only TGID's you will hear for Clark county, is the county fireground on the SAFE-T system. The county PD has gone digital, so you will not be able to monitor them, or anything else that has a 'D' associated with the TGID.

yeah our department is all digital now, I talked with our RF guy at the department and he said the pro-433 would do just about everything but hear digital. All fireground ops and everything are digital now, the only thing they still use VHF for is the knockouts and I get that on the pager.

Thanks all for your assistance, I wish I had 500 bucks for a good digital scanner but I dont so it was a decent attempt. Thanks again.
