Hello,

Have finally gotten the RS8600 software to "work". A real battle. Will not be using it; more trouble than it's worth.

But, I cam across in one of the Icom notes the fact that they say you can have
only the Spectrum showing, and presumably also a fully functional radio.

- Even when the Remote Control function is turned OFF, the spectrum scope can still be monitored on your PC while using the receiver.

But, every time I close out the main screen (the primary one with the radio image and controls) it also closes out the Spectrum.
True for closing via the X, or with the EXIT option.

Anyone know how to close the main program, but keep just the Spectrum view (operable) ?
This, might be worthwhile.

Thanks,
Bob

If I click on Remote so that it is not lit, the receiver can be controlled on the R8600 itself. Interestingly I can still click on the spectrum scope on the computer and the radio will jump to that frequency. I do not see a way to hide the main Remote Control window though even if it is not enabled.

Hi,

Thanks for reply.
Sure is a lot to know with this radio.
Keeps my "elderly" brain well exercised.

The arrangement I have (finally) pretty much decided upon is to use the radio with WfView and CSVUserListBrowser.

The 3 items all can talk to each other, simultaneously, and it works out pretty nicely.
Unfortunately, WfView cannot work with the radio Memories.

Will take a look at CHIRP which was suggested, but the Icom 8600 radio doesn't seem
to be listed as one of the ones they support ?

Stay in touch,
Bob

To find lots of other 8600 users, there is a reflector on groups.io for this radio that looks like it's a pretty busy place

I'm pretty sure Bob is a member of the R8600 group at groups.io if I'm not mistaken. I know I've seen posts from him in some of the groups.
And you're correct in that it is a fairly active group for this receiver!
Most of the questions I see in the daily digest I receive early each morning have already been answered by the time I read the daily digest posts.
It is a nice group for anyone with an 8600 that's looking for more info.
