If the title of the article is any indication, they're going to offer positions to 50 laid-off Deputies. I would imagine that they'll start at the top of the list and when 50 Deputies have accepted offers, they'll stop.

It's based on Rank/Seniority - There is a very strict and specific structure in place. Last out, fist back - The COPS grant is for bodies, not equipment or facilities.

This is good news. S.O. cars are a rare site in my area (D6) and it would be nice to see them around again.

I've seen S.O. cars maybe 3 times since I moved to Rosemont. One of those times I was the R.P. and the response time was a good 20 minutes. they were rolling code.

Does this grant include Rangers?

Does not include County Park Rangers - This is for SSD only.

Anyone heard a word about possible "air ops" (SSD) being funded for limited operation??
Glad the deputy re-hire is happening, but the "helo's" were such a great tool for trackin' suspects, etc.
Ok..being kinda selfish I guess..but it made for great scanning, too!
A CHP here in Carmichael mentioned something about "air ops" but didn't get it all.
Had 13 police units ( most SSD, some CHP...some???) tryin to get a subject from the board and care next door to quit runnin around with his pants off one night, but other than that , didn't see units very often until RCPD got into the picture 'couple years back.Know what you mean, mkewman.

Air Ops (STAR) still operates in a very limited capacity, available for emergency callouts, routine and mandate training and flight hours. This round of COPS grants is for bodies only.
