They will eventually go P25 as well as other users of the Sac Regional Radio Communications System. It'll be a process that takes years. Both agencies have the ability to go P25 but you won't see it occur on their main dispatch channels until literally thousands of radios are changed out to new ones. What you WILL see are a few select talk groups going digital first. Perhaps fairly soon (2008) I'm sure you can guess which channels those will be.

Los Rios PD, who uses the same radio system is currently operating on P25 Digital. Smaller agencies who don't have nearly as much equipment (mobiles/portables/consoles) to change out can make the P25 earlier as Los Rios PD did.

this doesn't mean that some ssd and sac pd units don't have digital radios- some do (namely the motor monkeys). I've seen Astro logos on a couple of cycles, and 1 on an unmarked car downtown.

it just means they're not using the digital stuff...

which reminds me. are those analog tgids for los rios going to be reassigned or deleted? i've heard nothing on them.

Those TGID will remain in place. Los Rios PD is a guinea pig of sorts.

Forgive me if this is a n00b question, but...

When the agencies using the SRRCS go digital will they all be given new tgid's? Or does LRPD have the alternates only because they're the guinea pig?

I've heard that selected TGID will go encrypted. They could also go encrypted prior to full fleet conversion to digital.

These are probably going to be non-patrol channels. Sheriff McGinness (sp?) seems to be the kind of open door sheriff that wouldn't want his patrol channels encrypted. This, however is just based on pure conjecture.

As for SPD, i have no idea.

Does anyone think sacramento pd/ssd will be participating in the rebanding anytime soon, or at all?

It's not an issue of SPD or SSD discretion since they don't "own" the radio system. It's a matter of FCC and the governing board to move through the rebanding process. All of the "new" equipment will be compliant but it is still a matter of going through the process. The Sac Regional system is on the higher end of the priority lst. There are several websites out there that OFFICIALLY discuss the status of rebanding and which phase is taking place.
