Been to the SLC Airport several times over the holidays and noticed something out of the ordinary. When I say ordinary I mean the SLCIA has always maintained it's own police dept.

During my trips this holiday season I saw several Salt Lake City PD units which were marked on the rear with "Airport Division" or the like. I also never saw any vehicles which would be owned or operated by the airport authority. There were several people wearing vests which said "traffic" on them but they had no badges or guns like the airport traffic folks have had in the past.

Any thoughts?

It is the Salt Lake City PD Airport Bureau that provides police services at that location. It's probably less expensive for the airport to contract for police services than to have it's own department.

The Salt Lake City Police Department has staffed the airport with officers and patrol vehicles since about late 2018. The employees wearing "Traffic" vests are not SLCPD employees.

In my haste to understand what happened to the SLCIA PD I simply posted - when a little research goes a long way. Thanks for posting the sltrib article - I had no idea this happened in 2019.

After more research I cannot seem to find where this group of officers is dispached from nor can I find anything on RR about the fire/EMS response at the airport. This info was all under the airport pd page formerly.

I may be missing what the question(s) is/are. SLIA (the airport) uses the SLC trunk system (AC33). This system has 2 sites, one is located at the Airport (Site-63). Many of the airport Talk Groups are carried on the City site (Site-01).

That is correct. Many times when the SLCFD is dispatched on an Aircraft Alert it's on the standard "Fire 2" channel but the response ends up on the Airport Fire TG ( 53216 ) also the units are identified as "Red #" here is a link to the Salt Lake City Public Safety system with relevant information:
