• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi,

Just to preface, I know virtually nothing about radio and need some info. I buy boxes of product returns, distressed items, etc., and resell what I can and recycle the rest. In one of my recent purchases there was a case of 10 new Motorola radios. The description says "APX900 UHFR2 Model2 Portable". They have no batteries or antennas.

I googled the model number (H92SDF9PW6AN) and it says for public safety use. Is it legal to sell these? If it is, what would be a fair price?

Thanks!

The story of Bleiwas' radio days begins in 1994 when he purchased from a friend more than 1,000 Motorola portable radios that had been decommissioned by various city agencies and auctioned by the city Department of General Services. The walkie-talkies' crystals, antennas and batteries had been removed and do not broadcast police, fire or ambulance calls, but they are sought after by buffs and collectors of memorabilia.

Last March someone calling himself "PD Collector" responded to Bleiwas' ad on eBay and purchased a radio for $70. That was the end of it, or so Bleiwas thought, until April 7 when his phone rang at 6 a.m. and a sergeant was on the line ordering him to open the front door of his Long Island home.

If that's really a concern, track down the original owner, run the serials, etc.
If they are stolen, the serial numbers will come back hot.

Yes it's legal to sell these (assuming you obtained them legally yourself). Can't help much with the price, maybe $300-400 each on eBay, but that would depend on the flashcode (software options) and whether they are full keypad or limited keypad. UHF R2 sounds like they originally came from a T-band area.

APX900's aren't that old of a radio. Around 2016 the APX4000 just hit the streets and it was offered in two variants...dual knob and single knob. Single knob would be renamed APX1000 for 2017. That was about the same time the 900 came out.

Depending on the software options (which would be listed on the clear plastic clam shell that the radio ship in), the radionew is worth about $800-$1500ea. However, second hand or NOS, they are worth about $150-$250ea. This is assuming they are not software locked to a specific customer system. TT

When you sell them the buyers may want to know specific info on the box. Whats the flashport/flashcode? Whats the date on the boxes? Depending on the firmware version, if they are over R18, They're pretty much useless to the casual hobbyists if radio doesn't have desirable flashport options after R18 so dealers or users with appropriate flashport upgrades would be interested. iirc, what was it middle of 2018 when R18 came out?
