Ok, I'm a newbie when it comes to scanners. I just bought a UNIDEN BCT15. The one i had this was just a 100 dollar radio shack scanner, up until a about 2 years ago i was able to pick up ingleside, aransas pass, san pat sheriff on my plain radio shack scanner, now there gone, and thats not good the whole reason i had bought it to listen to the local police.

I had read somewhere that alot of police were now using the 800 range frequencies, so i bought this new unit the uniden bct15, and crossed my fingers hoping i would be able to listen to the local agencies. Now i'm reading all this stuff about digital encryption and different trunk systems witch i had no idea about :( I know my scanner can read

Motorola type |
Motorola type ||
type ||i hybrid
Edacs trunking
Edacs scat
LTR trunking

For those of you listening in San Pat County will this scanner be able to pick up Ingleside, Aransas Pass, San Pat Sherrif? I believe i did pick up some ingleside traffic earlier, but i only read the dispatcher, it was on frequency 867.7125.

Thanks.

according to the rr database, San Pat has moved to an EDACS system. the bad news is that it is AEGIS digital. There are no scanners available that can demodulate an AEGIS signal.

San Pat SO, Aransas Pass Police, Ingleside Police, and Taft Police are all users of this system.

last time i was down that way (last summer), i recall catching Aransas Pass PD on their old vhf system, but i don't know if that is still the case or not.

Dam that really sucks! No news on when these type of scanners will be available? or will they ever be? I used to love to listen ingleside and ap, and san pat sherrif and now it seems they are gone :( Luckily port aranasas seems to still be using their primary channel, it gets wild during spring break. Ya aransas pass quit using their old channel, i only hear ems calls every once and a while.

Side question: Is AEGIS a third type of PS digital comms (Next to P25 and ProVoice)?

Unfortunately, any agency using EDACS is liable for an upgrade, and when that happens, forget about it. THERE WILL NEVER BE A PROVOICE OR AEGIS SCANNER. MACOM will not let scanner companies use their heavily proprietary ProVoice (Think San Antonio/Bexar County).

AEGIS and VSELP (Ericcson and Motorola respectively) are old first generation digital comms made for public safety systems and some private systems.

Well there goes my home county :( On a better note i find I'm still able to pick up traffic from Nueces county areas, and i might as well use this scanner to it's fullest, but I'm having a hard time understanding programing the trunk systems. I searched the net and couldn't find any tutorials. Do yall recommend buying this software > http://www.scannermaster.com/ARC15_Basic_Software_CD_p/18-521074.htm
and also is this the usb cable that is needed to program my scanner with the software? > http://www.scannermaster.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=01-551038

Thanks.

Newer type of digital comms are as you said P25 & ProVoice but there is also OpenSky which is also not monitorable and also being marketed as secure.
