SARA update - Poweshiek County

Poweshiek County will be moving to SARA. Interesting they will be going with P25 paging and Unication pagers. Does anyone know of any one else currently or planning on using P25 paging and Unication pagers in Iowa?

Great news this morning! – The Poweshiek County Board of Supervisors voted to approve a $6.2M contract with RACOM to upgrade their public safety Land Mobile Radio system to 700/800 MHz P25 Phase 2 trunking! The new four site simulcast system will be connected to the larger SARA (Shared Area Radio Agreement) network. This system will provide incredible coverage, fantastic reliability and seamless interoperability with all of their state and local mutual aid partners. Nearly all of Poweshiek’s neighboring counties are also using L3Harris P25 systems connected to the SARA network including: Marshall, Tama, Iowa, Mahaska and Jasper counties.
The system includes:
Nearly 300 new radios, many of which are the L3Harris class leading XL-200P multiband portable
A new P25-based fire paging system with new Unication P25 pagers
An upgraded outdoor warning system
New L3Harris Symphony dispatch consoles positions

I have heard rumors in the Humboldt/Webster counties may be using or going to be using P25 paging.

I know that the volunteers at Saylor Township fire in Polk county have Unication pagers.

I know that the volunteers at Saylor Township fire in Polk county have Unication pagers.

The Unication pagers come in several different bands and do several different methods of page decoding. They can work like a Motorola pager we were used to seeing since two tone paging started decades ago.

Starcomm in Woodbury County (ISICS). Each volunteer fire/EMS agency has its own paging talkgroup and they carry Unication receivers.
