Yes the alert tones are a little funky but they do nothing on the system. The tones open up VHF pagers carried by emergency responders. The voice is ok but understand it is a VHF bridged over repeater to a TAC.

Tones sent over P25 will sound wierd. The P25 vocoder (as are most speech centric vocoders) is designed to digitize human voice. Paging tones are continues tones of a set frequency, very unlike human speech.

And you are right, it doesn't matter since they aren't needed on the trunked system. If they wanted, they could use the console to send the tones to VHF only, and the voice part of the page to both VHF and the P25 system. This is what Colonie does - the paging tones never appear on the trunked system.

For whatever reason, I'm picking up (46.42,158.775,158.730) better than ever. The P25 is spotty at best in and around Albany, and to the west and south. Will the old frequencies go away at some point ? thanks

The system is designed for use with the XLT1500 and XLS1500 radios not scanners.

Does it work with anything that is not made by Motorola?

If P25 is truly an "open" standard, then other brand mobiles and portables should work just as well. (I'm not talking about scanners here.)

It's not that simple. Scanners could be made to work as well as the Motorola or Harris or EFJ or Tait radios, but they wouldn't cost $300.

No, probably not $300. But you could do it for $100.

You need a true IQ receiver, which scanners are not...they are inexpensive receiver designs based on FM demodulators.P25 decode shoe-horned in to a analog receiver basically.

Correct - the FM demodulation action irrevocably mangles the signal when LSM simulcast distortion is present.

Anyone try using an SDR on this system?

Yes. see http://forums.radioreference.com/ne...county-trs-official-thread-8.html#post1573478

Best Regards

Reading the grapevines and nets one gets the impression that complaints have been muttered within official sectors regarding to what degree (exactly) LSM could be considered to be standard, or not.

Recently I heard that there's a newer version of the P25 specs in which they have added provisions for simulcast.

That is one way of making sure it's compliant, albeit an ex post facto one...

Yes, however they would need to be programmed by Saratoga county authorized vendor who has the site key to do so.

I think a UHF trunked system would have been better, but those Motorola sales folks are excellent. And I'm not complaining about Motorola....it's still the best stuff out there, just for the terrain and area....a VHF or UHF trunked system would have made more sense.

Motorola was not the system designer or consultant in the system, it was a company called BlueWing or RedWing or some crap like that. The County put the bid out based on consultant agency advice and if the system was up now and having issues after awarded to Ma/Com/GE/Harris it would be same boat.

Add Uniden's HP-1 to the list of scanners that can't receive a usable signal on this system from my home in Waterford - Northside.

Could you please give us your opinion on the HP-1, Dave ?
Probably will have to be another thread, but I would like to know what you think of it. I've been on the fence with the decision to buy one.

Thank you

Just had a couple of sheriff's portables turn-up on TG 5111. I haven't had activity on this TG since testing in May. Really would like to find use for TG's 5111, 1319, 1113, 1320,2211, 3211, 3212, 3213, 8110, and 8211 ! Anyone ID these yet ?

Thanks, I added them and locked them out. Are 1320 & 65531 fully encrypted?

I updated my HP-1 to HP-1E (Home Patrol Extreme) yesterday and left it in Trunking Discovery Mode overnight. I got 7 hits over 14 hours on the Saratoga County system.

I have gotten >600 hits on the Saratoga County system in the last hour on a BCD996T with stock anntenna (though has to be on 2nd floor next to window.)

Audio is mostly decent.

I'm getting back in operation after Unitrunker lost ALL of my data....talkgroups, UID's, everything.
I was able to find a point that it saved in July, so everything from then on had to be repopulated.
At the speed that I am logging, it shouldn't take too long. Good sounding system.

Does anyone have any info on the 4-digit UID's that range from 1140 to 1753 ? My guess is that they are dispatcher ID's.
