Hi all,

just turned on my scanner for the first time in a while and I don't hear anything on the PPSTN. I have been reading all the threads about it and wanting to take a listen but all I hear is the occasional burst on the control channel (139.245, listening on a separate radio) and no traffic at all on the scanner. I'm using a 396XT with the latest database info for the Saskatoon site.

The Uniden "manual" for this thing is next to useless, so I'm not sure I've got everything set up all correct, but it used to work a few months ago. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Control channel should be 139.2450. Not sure why it's not working with your scanner though. There is plenty of traffic coming off the Saskatoon site. My only thoughts can be a programming glitch. If you are able to and haven't already done so, try using a program like FreeScan and download the info from RR.com and upload it to your scanner.

Sorry to hear it's not working. Let us know if anything else pops up problem or solution wise.

Thanks for the reply Colby,

For whatever reason, it's started working just fine today. I turned on the scanner and got audio, so I'm happy. Would be nice to know what happened though...

Just a guess but maybe they took the main CC down for maintenence and were using the alterenate CC for a while. Sometimes the main CC becomes a voice ch, so that data burst u heard was actally someone talking. Just a guess.

That would make sense. Of course, that would also imply the other control channel isn't in the database. I reloaded the scanner with the most recent database information when it didn't work.

The other control channel should be in the database. Just make sure you don't have it locked out. I've done that before (one of my many idiosyncrasies) and forgotten about it. All Saskatoon site frequencies should be in the database. If anybody notices they aren't, please go ahead and submit away!

Didn't see any locked out channels, but then I'm still coming to grips with the scanner. If it happens again I'll look more closely at how the channels are configured. I've got plenty of alternate gear to listen to the channels with so if something is missing I'll make sure it gets added.

Thanks for your help guys.

It seems to me that a frequency is missing from Saskatoon. The PPSTN seems to use the same frequencies over in different locations. If you look at Regina(Sask.power head office) and Saskatoon they seem to use the same frequencies, but Saskatoon seems to be missing 139.14 as an alteranate. Again I'm just throwing a guess out there, but it might be worth putting this frequency into the scanner and seeing if it works the next time the main CC goes down.
