I’m looking for an indoor base or mobile circular polarized antenna for my scanners just to listen to military satellites, pirates, and all the other stuff. Thanks in advance for recommendations!

Go to post #11 here, download the plans and build this, it works well for the roughly 243-270MHz UHF mil satellites. Reception inside a building depends entirely on what the antenna will be looking through to see the satellites.

Do you know any store bought antennas by any chance? Because this is my first time building an antenna and if I screw I want something to fall back on in the meantime. Also I know a lot of military satcom is in California but if I point my antenna at the right satellite I should hear it right? and also are there in tools to find directions in the sky? Because many satellite trackers give you locations such as 97W for example.

Nooelec has a couple, can't vouch for how good they are, but I know I'm really happy with the SDRs they make/sell.

There are store bought UHF satcom antennas but their prime customers are the military and they are expensive. Typically $5k on up. They do show up as military surplus and I used to have a big collection of them but have since sold most off. You might search eBay for “UHF satcom antenna” and see if any show up within your price range.

I there. Apparently I can't download those files for some reason. Can anyone help me on this?

Are you going to post #11 in the thread and clicking on the two pdf files?
Yes it says I am not authorised to download the files.

It maybe because I have a noob account? All my posts need moderator approval

Just search X-Wing sat antenna on Google and you will find all kinds of plans for this type of antenna,I have built two of them ........
But you probably won’t find plans of the Monitoring Times X-Wing which has the unique ability to sit on the ground and receive the entire satellite arc without moving when within the continental US.

Jeez prcguy, what would you know about the Monitoring Times X wing antenna. It's not like you designed and built it yourself.

I think the nooelec satellite mesh antenna would work more for me because I’m trying to listen to milsat uhf downlinks on a portable scanner
The Noo Electric dish is 1.5 Ghz, I think what you are after is 240 to 400 MHz.
I have the Andrews eqivalent and OK for W-sat (GOES), not much else.
