I imagine this question has been asked time and time again, is it best to keep it as scanning when I have three frequencies on the scanner (two Capital Mutual Aid and Merrimack County Sheriff)?

Thank you for your patience with this newbie.

"Scanning" as opposed to what? manually tuning each channel separately?

First you must determine which banks/groups the desired freq are in. If they are in the same bank, select that bank (1,2,3,etc) and press scan. If they are in different banks you select multiple numbers, (outlined in the manual) ,and then start scanning. Perhaps a better explanation can be found in the new users forum. Good Luck

Now I am really lost, what is a "Bank"?
I put in freq. 154.35500 (Alpha Tag CAFMAC) Description: Dispatch. Mode: FM; Tag Fire Dispatch

And freq. 155.68500 (Alpha Tag MerrimackCty); Description: Mode P25; Tag Law Dispatch.

Thanks for everyone's comments

Radio Type

I am using Radio Shack Pro 197. I can get the Concord Area Mutual Aid Feed (CAMAF) but nothing for Merrimack County Sheriff Dispatch which is what I am looking for also.

Thanks for the help

The Pro-197 doesn't use banks. It uses GRE's OOM (Object Oriented Memory) architecture. In terms of flexibility, OOM is a big step forward from the tradition bank/channel setup, but it is not as easy to setup as simply typing in a frequency and pressing scan.

Basically, each frequency you program into the scanner is an "object". You need to create a scan list that includes the 3 frequencies you want the scanner to monitor/scan.

You have a pretty advanced scanner there. It has some great features, but you really need to read up on how to program and operate that scanner to get the most out it.

Click here to read the "easier to read Pro-197 manual"

Trust me, it is better that you don't know how to program older scanners. Without having software for your radio and a USB connector, programming is going to be harder to manage. I own a GRE PSR 500. Your radio was made by GRE. To make matters easier, I download and use Win500 software. You can get a 30 day trial of this software as well. I DO NOT recommend getting any software made by Butel.

thanks

Ensnared,

I have the USB cable, that is how I was able to program in the Fire dispatch that I receive. However, I also put in the correct freq for the county sheriff and get nothing. I forgot I hace the Win500 program (and I paid for it). Maybve I should try it that way?
