How do you have your scanner set up and how many talkgroups do you monitor.

For me it is Brampton fire, all of York fire, PRP 21 and 22 station and YRP 4 sation. And any more it is too much radio traffic .If there too much radio traffic I may limit monitoring the 5 users above.

I monitor EMS time to time .I do other stuff too so I cannot spend every day glued to the scanner may be 2 or 3 times in 7 days .I know other scanner guys that spend more times in 7 days than me.

I usually scan 2 systems at a time, my local 9Halton) and Hamilton Fleetnet tower.
In Toronto I usually tune in TPS EMS & a fleetnet tower.
On the way to work, I start with Hamilton and switch to Mississauga where the 403 splits off from the Q.

My 246 is as follows:

SQK:
1. conventional freqs (various stuff, particularly TTC)
2. Toronto Police: all 4 sites with only police TGIDs
3. York Region
4. Various other trunked systems.
5. Peel Region
6. Toronto EMS: all 4 sites with only EMS TGIDs.
7. Fleetcom/Lakeshore #4
8. Bell Fleetnet Zone 1 sites 009, 039, 040 for analog EMS
9. Toronto Hydro/Public Works
10. Toronto Fire: all 4 sites with only Fire TGIDs

My pro 43 is for air traffic with stock ducky.

Only Toronto pol/fire/ems are alpha tagged. Very few others are tagged. I haven't used the software. Currently at 52% memory used. Off topic -- I have reception issues, even though I have a 130 in the attic, I still receive York and Peel very poorly (with ducky or 130) and also TPS East site. It overloads my pro 43 not allowing me to hear YYZ atc side of the conversation.

I hate trying to follow all the action on just one scanner or radio.

I usually use one scanner or Motorola radio to monitor each thing I want to hear.

I use 2 BC898T's running ID tracker on external LCD's for monitoring Peel fire and police. When something is going on,I have a few Maxtracs that I use to listen to the specific talkgroup the incident is on.PDW is always running as well,so I know what is going on on each channel, and can tune directly to it.I also use the Toronto CAD to see what is going on there, and have another Maxtrac set up for all of Toronto.

In the car,I use a 396 for scanning, and MCS2000's 800's and Maxtracs for listening.A 996 works good for OPP and Fleenet.I also have another MCS 8000 VHF for fleetnet as well.PDW runs on a mini tablet PC and a portable scanner.

On the go,I use MTX8000's,MTS2000's,and the 330 or 396.

The key for me is breaking up the scanning across multiple radios,so I don't miss anything.

well I usually listen to local trunked sys among other things , but if the question is how did I set it up ,...well being an old scanner user from the early days the jump to the 396 took some time to break old habits for example,I programmed in all the freqs for fleetnet before I understood what control channel scanning was , I still have plenty of memory & its not really hurting anything , besides I have wondered if 1 or more towers go down for some reason perhaps it could come in handy , I dunno I'm not familiar with how the backup would work ,also it works great ,& I'm to lazy to reprogram it properly....
