Yup, or better a Reversed Display or upside down. on my GRE600

Generally occurs when I have not turned the radio off in weeks [4-6+]
simple power off, power on resets.

I can duplicate that by setting the contrast to maximum. On your scanner, go to PROG, GLOB, scroll to Contrast, set to 4, and Save. There should be a setting in your programming software also.

Most likely a poor connection on the display ribbon cable. This was especially true on the PRO-2055 and similar designs. We used to very carefully work the ribbon cable edge connector out of it's socket. Then taking sharp scissors VERY slightly trim off a tin strip off the cable and reinserted it. Sometimes you had to work it/rock it back and forth a little to get it fully seated in the edge connector. That worked most of the time. Or buff the ribbon cable connector with a pencil eraser to make it shiny removing the oxide patina.

Where's the GLOB key on the 2055? Func +9 for contrast, and setting the contrast up only makes dots appear, not the display of the OP

Sorry, I thought it was a Pro-197. Try this:

Changing the Display Contrast
In Manual mode, press FUNC then 9. Use Up/Down keys to set contrast appears. Press ▲ or ▼ to select the contrast then press ENT
Running the contrast to max gives me the same display on the Pro-197.

I've seen this condition on several models of GRE made scanners, even some that are brand new. It does tend to happen after the unit is powered 24/7 for weeks, but it is not guaranteed. It's always recovered for me after a power cycle.

Is it hard to get to ? - I have very minimal experience digging into electronics...

It's not hard to get to, just remove the top cover. However the ribbon cable is quite delicate and a little tricky to get back into the connector and it kinks fairly easy. Do so at your own risk. Also I'm not "positive" it will fix your problem. Maybe at first just move it in and out a little without removing it, see if that helps. Possibly look for any electronics repair place in your area. Ribbon cables are used in most everything these days.

Did you try a master reset? I see you did a power reset but I would try a master reset if you haven’t yet.
