Has anyone used scannerprogrammer.com, to get your Radio Shack scanner programmed? I don't really understand the whole Trunking thing (yes, I've read the wiki page, etc.). I sent them a pricing request, and for my county, and the surrounding 3 counties, plus the state trunking system (2 banks alone) they quoted me $45. I could do all the conventional frequency programming myself, obviously it would take a lot of time though. And I do not "get" the whole trunking thing, so I wouldn't have that if I did it myself.

Trustworthy?

Then, IMO, the questions you should really be asking are ones that will help you understand trunking. That is what this site is all about.

Clearly, you have money to burn. Good luck! :)

Well, I posted over in the Michigan forum yesterday, with some other questions, and haven't received any responses yet, so I don't know how much traffic that gets. I thought the "Software" forum might be more appropriate.

The only thing I've seen you post in the Michigan forum was in the Michigan Roll Call Sticky, which is not really for questions. A lot of Michigan is on the MPSCS system. It's a lot cheeper to get WIN96 and become a subcribing member here than to pay $45 everytime you want to change your scanner. I have no way of telling what you can receive where you're at, I'm on the other side of the state, I have both a PRO96 and a PRO2096 and they are easier to program with WIN96 than by hand. Setting up your scanner is a lot of just trying to see what you can receive and understanding how trunked and conventional systems are set up. From where I live, I can get three counties.

Thanks - I guess I'll post a new topic over in the general Michigan forum, not in the Rollcall thread.

I have an older RS scanner at home that only has a capacity of 80 frequencies/channels. I know I can get my county (Ottawa, plus Kent County, plus Muskegon, as I have some of those frequencies programmed in. I would imagine I could also get Allegan, which is directly south of me, since I can get Muskegon. I'm on the far south end of Ottawa County, so Allegan County starts only a couple miles away from me, vs. the 30 miles away that Muskegon is. And I've heard calls in Kent County in the Walker area (NW and the US131 area. So I should at least be able to get the western half of Kent County.

By WIN96, do you mean the Starrsoft software?

In another post he said he had a PRO96 and got his mother a PRO2096. So ARC software won't work.

If you are trying to program a PRO-96 then get Win96 for it and use the web import feature. You will have to become a Premium Subscriber to this site in order to use this feature.
