Scanning in Schaumburg

Hello... I live in Schaumburg and and Im goin gto get a new canner.. With all this talk about DIGITAL do I need a scanner that follows Digital? Or will a normal trunking scanner be fine? Im looking at the Pro-97 or the Pro-96 form Radio Shack

If you want to monitor Elk grove village you will need a digital scanner. schaumberg also has one digital talkgroup used by detectives. I would get a digital scanner as schaumberg will be going digital soon enough.

This is probably better off in the Illinois forum but here's the Schaumburg database entry. I don't have any direct knowledge of this system but it appears to be an analog trunked system. There's a bit more on the Cook County northern suburbs page. Like Motorolax said, there's probably more Astro heading your way so a digital scanner might be the way to go.

That said, I'd get a conventional trunktracker for a starter radio. Unless there's a concrete and certain plan in the very near future, I buy based on what is available NOW. You never know when that new radio is going to be introduced and prices do nothing but drop on current models.

You would think, of all the cities in the US, that Schaumburg would have the most advanced, top-of-the-line, newfangled system out there....
