I just moved another scanner into my main shack a old Bearcat 210XLT just to monitor a couple of channels. However when I have it on it causes my RS 2052 to show freq.s that it is not receiving on?? As soon as I shut off the 210 everything is normal. I also have my Pro 95 and 96 right there and no problems. The only difference is I have the 210 running off an antenna in the window. Never had anything like this happen before. The 210 doesnt bother the 95 0r the 95 or any other scanner I have running. But if it is within 3 or 4 ft of the 2052 it sends it haywire.................H:confused:ser

Re; Old 200 series bearcats...

Hoser most of the old 210,220 and even the bc 250's have a design
flaw in them from the days before uniden. Back then the mfg. was
Electra corporation. The problem is in I.F. section of the radio emitting
strong rf harmonics in parts of the spectrum that they shouldn't.
You could try some additional shielding on the inside of the case or
additional grounds, but this only works in some cases.
The old bearcats were great for the moment but they were "leaky"!
Also try relocating the unit while your other receiver is locked up.
73's.

Hoser,The 210xlt and your pro 2052 has a I.F. conflict with each other.
If you can find the specs. for both radios look up the frequencies listed
in the I.F. section. They're probably very close!
Try more distance between them or a extra ground on the 210.

OK, let's set this straight once again, I wish you guys got it straight the first time. The IF has nothing at all to do with it, the LOCAL OSCILLATOR in some receivers tends to radiate. The IF is an amplifier and if it radiated which it does not the other receiver would hear modulation which it does not.

Scanners like all receivers including television sets and computers are Part 15 devices (look it up) which tend to radiate spurious signals for short distances. Short of additional shielding and circuit isolation which would raise the consumer price prohibitively nothing can be done about the radiation. All you can do is isolate the offender one way or another or shut it off.

Right, more distance between them meaning the radios and/or antennas but grounding has no effect on leakage from the case or (rarely) from the antenna.

Hey Guys thanks for the imput. it didnt start right away however I found the problem and it is solved. I had the antenna on a tin lid in the window ( a Mag mount). One of my kids removed the tin lid from under the magmount and it was causing the whole deal. After moving the scanner which was the only one that wasnt hooked up to an exterior antenna the problem persisted. So today while I was doing some things around the house I noticed the tin lid was gone. I replaced it and every thing is working just as it should. Im just using it to monitor 1 channel and the priority channel. Just to make certain traffic stand out. So all is well now. Thanks again Hoser
