• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a G5 on the way, and I see Unication offers screen protectors. Have folks found these to be necessary? Are the Unication ones any good? I got a 'Best Skins Ever' protector for my SDS100 and it has been excellent - easy to apply, no bubbles and invisible - but I see they have apparently gone out of business.

How much protection you want is a personal preference and how you are going to use it. If you are going to carry it on your hip like a pager especially while working, just remember is a $600 investment. So is putting a screen protector on going to hurt it, no. Will it possibly save you problems, yes. So I recommend it. But if it's going to sit on a desk and never move, no. I didn't use unications. I just bought a cheap cell phone protector from Walmart and cut it to size. I got 2 of them cut from 1 sheet. Now I'm hard on my pager. I work 2 fd jobs. So it takes some abuse. But my screen underneath is fine so for me it was well worth it. The pager comes with a plastic cover on the screen out of the box for shipping. I used that as a template for my cut.

I agree with what @amys17 said above, the only thing I'd add is using the Unication screen protector saves you time, and if you aren't great at making good cuts to exact sizes then you might want to consider the custom screen protector, or you can buy them and make your own, either way I strongly recommend it, even if just being used indoors. FYI do not get the glass screen protectors if making your own, they are difficult to impossible to cut without chipping.

Update: I went with the Unication screen protector. I have to say it was one of the easiest that I have ever applied and fits perfectly.
