I recently took a road trip from Ohio to Florida. I was using a SDS100 scanner with the standard antenna. I had CB Ch-19 programmed in using the Sentinel Database. I heard no CB traffic at all. I was on major interstates with lots of trucks. I know CB's are probably not as popular as they were 20 years ago when I owned one but to hear nothing has me curious as to why??
Skip is so intense most days that AM-19 is overwhelmed by those who shouldn’t be on it at all, overpowered base station operators purposely screwing up 19 for drivers, of cars or big trucks.
Partly as a result the users who
need 19 are being blocked and even fewer are on-air.
Nothing innocent or merely selfish about this. It’s coordinated. I can hear aholes speaking on open mic with another radio on in background repeating what I’m also hearing besides them. (Think, 0400 delivery of MSM talking points). The content of rants is irrelevant, it’s all about denying use.
Local will be strongest (best) before sunrise and after sunset.
Skip can vary thru the day. It’s dead-worst 1300 till sundown, generally.
Agreed that something’s “off” with your system at present.
Tallest possible antenna is more crucial than ever. (5’ is a minimum; 7-9’ preferable). 14’ total clearance works great for me.
— A scanner is a good idea for running thru the 40 for locals who’ve moved from 19. Scan-type that pauses a fair while per channel versus just breaking squelch.
DSP another worthy addition.
A radio with these functions soon to be released; with two types of Scan (and inexpensive). I’m going to bet it’s “better” in 10/11/12 Meter Scan than a GP Scanner (however nice).
