I have a question for discussion....

I am contemplating using my cherised and expensive SD200 for streaming audio. I plan to run it 24/7.

I was windering if this would have a negative effect on the unit - overheating, etc., in other words in plain English
Can you wear it out this way?

I don't see it incurring excessive heat issues, so just wondering...

SDS200 is probably a better unit to have for streaming/running 24/7 given its size and form factor. Can't imagine it having heat issues with just a peruse around the forum.

I think there are a few Broadcastify Streamers run the SDS200 exclusively.

Just remember to have a extra MicroSD Card so you can come back up quickly if it goes down.

I believe it's better to leave something running than power it on/off repeatedly. It keeps the heat/cool cycles down.

Won't hurt it at all...
My 200 has been running 24/7 for well over a year now... No issues at all...
The 200 doesn't run that hot anyway... Unlke the 100 which does...
And my 100 runs 24/7 as well with no issues... And it's a year older than my 200...
Same with me I have been running my 200 for over a year now.

I have had scanners for over 50 years. For as I was concerned there was not much since having them if I had to turn them off.

I posted this before, not sure if it was here, but my 1986 bought Pro-2004, except when I screwed up and modded it and blew it up, has been running 24/7 since day one. It had a 3 week vacation to G&G who got it running again. Here it is with my dog Gus in his final days in 1999...

If I turned the volume down all the way, he wouldn't sleep on my bed. Almost exactly 23 years later, it's still talking. Not as much as it used to, mostly trains these days...

The only time mine gets turned off is the occasional reboot every so many days when it's exceptionally quiet, or when it's in mobile state and on the move. When it sits at home it's streaming, and I'm far more worried about the computer it's streaming from having any kind of heat issue than the scanner itself because it remains cool to the touch even in indirect sunlight most of the time. I keep everything on a UPS but that's more of a personal choice I made due to excessive power fluctuations at times and not wanting the lights blinking to fry something expensive.
