Hello friends,

Can someone tell me if Amazon sells a gps antenna that works with the SDS100? I have started traveling around the state of Mississippi more and more and it would be nice to no have to program my scanner every day. From my understanding you can connect a gps antenna and it will automatically enable and disable talkgroups and towers as you approach them and leave the area. If I’m wrong someone correct me

First, you are 100% corect and many believe it is the best feature Uniden scanners offers. In fact, you can make these radios very accurately switch when actually crossing state/county/city borders, if you put the work programming "rectangles" into it. Or, the more 'shotgun' approach, (much less accurate), is to just use the "circle" lat/long/range data that is in radio reference (and pay attention to your global range.)

You need 2 things for GPS to work on the SDS100.

There are many people here that can help. Much of this has been covered before, so use the search function, but please ask questions here if you can't get the answers you need.

It needs to be the BR-355S4.
The Uniden branded version is the BC-GPSK.
Serial GPS Receiver BC-GPSK.

There is the Uniden BC-SGPS, but it is a POS rat's nest of cables and uses an inferior GPS receiver - don't do it!!

Google either the BR-355S4 or the BC-GPSK. Someone should have one.
Remember, they are basically the same, so either one is jusat as good as the other.
But, I strongly recommend NOT BUYING the BC-SGPS.

Do you have more information on how/why the BS-SGPS is bad or inferior? I ask b/c I ordered one and it should arrive tomorrow. What kind of issues are you seeing? I haven't seen anything posted on here, but I might have missed it.

I did have a GlobalSat BR-355S4 but it has quit powering up. At this point, I'm not sure if the power cord splitter you linked has quit supplying power (it still does to the radio but I cant tell if it does to the GPS or not), or if the GPS has shorted out or something.

To each his own....

For one, the GPS device (the rectangle one) they use is quite a bit less sensitive than the BR-355S4.
I have a 100 and a 200 sitting next to each other here.
Their GPS are next to each other in the window.
The BR-355S4 will very rarely, if ever loose lock.
The 200 (same GPS device as you purchased) will lose lock all the time.
It simply is not as sensitive of a receiver.

Second, the whole BS-SGPS is a CF of wires and adapter boxes.
The BR-355S4 and BC-GPSK is soooo much less crap to deal with.

I can agree with the CF of wires. I guess if you're permanently mounting then you can hide it all but if you're moving b/t cars, ugh....

I'm going to experiment with the Uniden one that just arrived and see how it does. I also ordered a new power cable to see if that was the problem with my older configuration or if its the GPS itself. If it turns out to be the GPS then I'm going to be quite disappointed as I only used it maybe twice. We'll see.
