When I put on "set charge while on" my SDS100 keeps giving this message low usb bus voltage.

I've plugged it into my computer.

My wall outlet, using my Verizon fast charge power brick thingy.

Nothing changes. It use to work great, I have a feeling my battery is going bad inside the radio because for the first year zero issues.

I recently got a new cord for it in February. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00016W6NC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It worked off this new cord for a while If I remember correctly but then I got lazy and stopped using my SDS due to moving homes.

Any ideas

To start, your situation sets you up for buying a new/spare battery. Regardless of if your current battery is going bad, it’s always good to have a spare handy. And Uniden sells a combo pack-a new battery and a stand-alone charger. Ideally, li-ion batteries should be recharged outside the radio. (Not that anyone, including me, abides by that. I recharge mine while still inside the radio on a regular basis. That bad clip that holds the battery cover on may be the reason some never remove the battery but I’ve been recharging the battery while inside the radio since before the external charger was available-it was the only way to recharge at the time.

Try turning off that which allows you to charge the scanner while the scanner is on... see if that gets rid of the low voltage warning.

As for the faulty clips used to hold the battery cover on the radio, get a replacement clip from Jon. Uniden says they have improved the replacement clips but I’ve heard the horror stories of Uniden insisting you needed to send the radio in for repair work, get the new, stronger clip and having that break also! Again, get the one Jon offers. Or, research repurposing a binder clip, I understand they work quite nicely and you can usually ask for a small one at any business office (where you work, etc.) and get it for free.

You HAVE to have a USB cord that uses 24AWG (heavier wire) for the red and black (power wires). Most do not, and if you don't have those heavier power wires, the voltage drop (on most standard USB cords) will put you below the voltage threshold and this error will always occur.

Find your stock Uniden cord or go back to Amazon and get:

Monoprice 3-Feet USB 2.0 A Male to Mini-B 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable

Note: You also have to have a USB power supply capable of 2.5 (?) amps or better....

Running the scanner and charging its battery at the same time do not draw more than 1,5A. Most modern computers and most USB chargers have 2,1A rated outputs. I think Uniden thought of the current needed from a standard USB port and kept the charge current low enough. It takes 50% longer time to charge the battery in the scanner than what the running time are from the battery.

It's important that the voltage do not drop from the power source, and that the USB cable do not have too much voltage loss. Uniden's included cable are fine. Too many cheap USB cell phone chargers drop their voltage too much to be used with a SDS100.
