You are not going to like it LOL. Many significant changes were made with firmware up to April of 2019. If you have an SDS made recently you are definitely going to need this recent firmware update which accommodates new hardware that was used. That will automatically include all previous firmware updates.

If you have an early SDS 100 you will lose many of the best features and improvements that made the radio work much better.

Hey Trentbob. Is there a list of all the changes made to the firmware? Just wondering.
Thanks!

I may have misunderstood, you don't like the new firmware that just came out that basically addressed housekeeping for new hardware? If you are referring to the first firmware that came with the radio in 2018 and was quickly updated several times within weeks you will be disappointed. I'm sure there's somebody that can help you to restore your radio to that condition. No reception increases, no hold time adjustments, no adjustment in housekeeping, no filters Etc. Good luck. :)

What specifically isn't working correctly for you & how did you come to the conclusion it's firmware related? Our knowledgeable userbase here at Radioreference may be able to suggest alternative measures for you to take with the current FW you are running

And does he mean the ORIGINAL, very first, ever FW or the one that came with his SDS that may have been original to him BUT not ground zero?
That's a good point, that's why I said I might have misunderstood. If it's a fairly recent radio and I don't know what to cut off is then you would need the most recent firmware update that addressed housekeeping for hardware updates, I think I remember reading that is included already with the newer radios. Prior to that I would think most radios had the April 15th tax day firmware update which was the last update that addressed performance. Since that's well over 3 years ago I would think it would be the latest firmware update included with radios prior to the new hardware radios.

So you're right, perhaps the original poster wants to revert back to the tax day update even though there isn't any difference between that one and the new update except the new update has a few minor changes like steps in Discovery and search which I personally don't need and Improvement in decoding the higher end of the VHF high band which I also don't need.

I updated the sds200 with the new firmware even though it doesn't have any new hardware. I opted to not update my sds100 so the April 2019 update is my current one.

We would need more clarification from the original poster but you make a good point.

Thank you
Just to clear a few things up Paul. You were being moderated because you are a new member so some of your responses didn't show up until after we posted our comments. If you notice you're now a member and no longer a newbie so your replies will show up as fast as ours do.

Something tells me that it's not the new or latest firmware update that's causing your problem because by the nature of how things work you do have the April 15th 2019 update in your radio. Something else may have happened.

Whenever you hook up to Sentinel it's always a good idea to transfer your data card to your profile and save it first thing. Perhaps some settings were changed somehow when you transferred the data from Sentinel back to your data card on the radio after the firmware update.

For starters go ahead and check that all your service types are enabled and make sure that attenuation is not accidentally turned on. When trying to problem solve a head scratcher like this we should start with the basics.

Yea, if we had a nickel for every time we said that about some radio LOL. I'm on my way to a doctor's appointment right now but.. you have the attention of a number of people that are paying attention to this thread.

We actually need a lot more information about your situation, did you roll back the firmware update?

Do you use favorites list, allowing you to customize the radio? or are you using zip code database scanning? Perhaps you could give us what it is you're trying to listen to.. what town, county, state do you live in.. what changed about it. Not hearing anything at all is significant. This information will help the folks here to help you.

Can you hear your local NOAA Weather Radio broadcast?

The stock antenna that comes with the radio is not your preferable antenna and there are plenty of aftermarket antennas that will work better but when your radio was working before.. it was the stock antenna.
