Hi im trying to get into stringer journalism and not sure what equipment package im going to need yet. I think the sds200 would be the ultimate for starting out but not sure about what I can hear. Can someone help me understand what channels I can listen to from this list?
Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference for Mohave County, Arizona (AZ)

Specifically under trunked it says LVMPD (las vegas metro) does that mean i can't listen?
I remember starting as a stringer with newspapers, Philadelphia Bulletin when I first started driving back in the sixties, I'm a retired editor of a seven day a week daily on a pension.
Unlike me, who had his own dark room at age 16 and could deliver a typewritten story, along with several photos developed that they could velox and use, you are up against all of the nut jobs out there with cell phones who are not professionals and don't have a clue, not what a professional journalist is.
If you want to pursue the career, it's a dead end, all advertising has been lost by newspapers and the ones that stick around are very thin or they run their photos off the AP wire very, very large to make up for their lack of text LOL.
Listening to police broadcast on slide rule dial receivers before there were Crystal controlled scanners, that's what made me successful. Always get the story not just the photos, interview the cops, get the cell phone number or contact for the officer in charge to give to the news source to follow up.
Always having numerous radios in my car, is what got me promoted.
I don't consider this off topic, considering what you are asking about, but what kind of cameras do you use? Do you have fast lenses? 2.8 or better? Are you just video for TV?
Before you worry about how do you use the scanner to follow spot news. Check in with your local newspapers and TV stations and establish a relationship with the publishers and editors involved. What's their budget for freelance contributions?
From your question I'm judging that you are not a professional and they only hire professionals as I did.
Respect police lines, don't argue with cops, don't let them know you're there before you get all the video or photos you need then show up to let them throw you out LOL. If it's a big event, somebody will buy it, don't give it away with promises, they'll just put it on the wire and you'll never see a dime. Good luck.. Bob
