I recently purchased a SDS200 to use to monitor the Ohio MARCS system. I had previously used a BCD536HP. The new SDS200 works well with one exception. When I plug in my external speakers, it loses audio after about 30 - 60 mins. I can unplug the speakers, turn off the radio, reboot, and it will work flawlessly as long as I do not plug in the external speakers.
I have tried unplugging the speakers when it loses audio and re plugging in. That does not restore the audio.
My BCD536HP had no issues being plugged into the same speaker system. Used that radio on those speakers for 5+ years. Just assumed the SDS200 would work in the same manner.
Is there a setting I have missed, or is the SDS200 unique when using an external speaker?
I assumed that the speaker jack on the rear of the radio was mono.
Owners manual was of no help answering any questions regarding the use of external speakers.

This may be a case of shorting the audio amp. The jack is mono audio on a stereo plug. Make sure you use a stereo plug.

I know that is correct for the headphone jack, but when I had my SDS200 apart, the external speaker jack appeared to be mono, rather than stereo. Can you double check that please? If the SDS200 external speaker jack is stereo rather than mono, isn't that a change from the 536?

How do we explain the poster’s ability to use the external speakers for 30-60 minutes before it goes silent? And the ability of the 536 to work flawlessly on the same speakers? Aren’t the 536 and 200 identical regarding the speaker jacks electrical connections?

All Unidens since the beginning of time have been mono on the speaker jack and stereo on the headphone jack. I haven't checked my 200, but it works just fine using a mono plug on the speaker jack.

You might be right, but using a stereo plug on a mono jack will still not short it out. Using a mono plug in a stereo jack will (or could). But yes I will check on that. I may have been mistaken in thinking both were stereo jacks.

The OP is doing the latter (using a mono plug).

I'm using the Uniden BC-15 speaker on my 200...
This is from the manual for it...
