Hi,

New operator for the SDS200e unit. Still have a USDS 100 which when used with Proscan, recorded happly without much setting up. The 200 though not as simple so far. Any hints on setting up the Proscan with a SDS200e for recording purposes?? So far, just a hum on playing back a transmission recording.

The hum is probably caused by using an audio cable causing a ground loop. An audio isolation transformer should fix it like in this link.

You may want to try the LAN connection for the audio. You wont have the problems inherent to analog audio interfacing such as overdriving the sound card, audio cross talk, AC hum, etc.

Right .... there is no audio cable connected to the 200e, just using the internal speaker. So this audio cable, something else on the computer?

If you're going to use an audio cable then use a standard stereo cable connected from the external speaker jack on the rear of the scanner to the audio input on the computer.
If you're going to use the LAN connection then you will need an Ethernet cable connected from the scanner LAN to the router.

Also the USDS 100 and SDS200E setup is the same using an audio cable. How did the USDS 100 work before if you didn't have a cable?

People I think you are missing the point. I am happy listening to the scanner through its speaker at this stage. I am talking about Proscan recording feature. When the recorder is switched on, when you go to listen to a transmission it has recorded, all you get is a hum, no voice. With the 100, there wasn't a lot to set up to get it to record properly and it worked, i.e, you could hear the transmission on play back.

Are you saying you are using the computer Mic to pick up the scanner speaker audio? If so then are you using the same instance of ProScan in the same way to pick up the SDS200E audio? You may have to go into the ProScan Audio Control - Recorder tab and adjust the left or right channel audio controls.

{edit} ProScan setup is the same for both of your scanners.

No, with the 100, I had it connected to my home network via the provided USB cable, which the allowed it to connect to Proscan, working on my PC. So any recording was via that USB connection. Going into Proscan audio control, I the set it up. The problem at the moment is, I am running just one Proscan program at the moment which has now been set up to operate the 200e, but now I have made changes to the audio control, I will have to set up the 100 again, getting it recording AND note the settings. I believe you can have more than one Proscan operating, so I might set up to versions, a 100 and the a 200e, but resetting the 100 now.

Audio does not ride on the USB cable. Also the USB cable does not connect to the home network. I just checked and the USDS100 is not Ethernet capable.

Yes you can have more then one instance of ProScan running on the same computer. Make sure each instance are in different folders.

Interesting about the USB, the only difference audio wise was the 100 was running into a speaker via the ear phone jack, the 200 just using its speaker. Then how was the PC getting the audio feed from the 100 ....????? stand by.....

Sorry, by network, I mean connected via a com port, thus being able to pass data etc to the Proscan program
Thanks. That explains the data side but the key question is how was the audio getting from the USDS100 to the computer and therefore ProScan. It's either an audio cable or speaker to mic.

That will work and that is what I was suggested in post 2. The Ethernet settings works a little different on the 200 models. Ethernet can also be used for the data side. You want to go into the scanner menu Settings - LAN Settings - Set IP Assignment then set Auto(DHCP). After that, back out 1 level then go into Show IPs then verify the scanner acquired an IP Address. That should do it on the scanner side unless you want to use FTP but that is down the road.

{edit} You will need to hook up an Ethernet cable from the router to the scanner.

And working. Nothing fiddly to set with URL set up apart from the network address for scanner. Now is that all the network connection is used for, audio or is there other things enabled with such a connection??

It also can be used for the data. Go into the Comm. Port menu then select URL and click the URL Setup button. If you want to read/write the favorites from/to the scanner then go into the menu same area as the LAN then go to Set FTP Server. The Read & Write Accounts need different User Names.

So with such a connection, do you still need the USB cable connected to a port on your computer etc??
